A RARE unused ticket for the launch of Titanic on May 31, 1911, sold for £35,601 at an auction in New York.
As previously reported in the Daily Echo, the ticket, which was auctioned at Bonhams, is rare because it still has its perforated admission stub attached.
It is numbered 193 and features the emblem of Titanic’s owners, White Star Line, in the top right hand corner.
A dinner menu from Titanic for April 12, 1912, sold for £19,778 at the same auction, while a poignant postcard sent from Southampton on April 6, 1912, by Titanic’s senior wireless operator, Jack Phillips, to his sister, Elsie, fetched £12,658. It cost a halfpenny to send.
Mr Phillips died in the Titanic tragedy.
