FROM tomorrow, and right through the school holidays, there will be singing, dancing and high jinx at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and it won’t be just the visiting children who will be responsible for the ruckus.

For five weeks, the dockyard will play host to a troupe of professional actors who will be performing daily in full costume, telling colourful stories of life as it would have been over 200 years ago.

Expect to bump into excited sailors ready to sail under Nelson’s command and sneaky sorts looking to fill their quota of new recruits – by fair means or foul!

Dockyard Alive is a brand new initiative that will transport visitors back in time to encounter a changing cast of characters with links to the site's major attractions including HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Its aim is to engage and inspire visitors of all ages, bringing added drama to the already packed schedule of activities and events organised each summer at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

The constantly changing performances will be immersive with lots of audience interaction as well as moments of thought provoking theatre and highly skilled acting.

Entry to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard costs from £31 per adult for an 11 attraction ticket with under 16s free during the summer holidays, valid for multiple entries throughout the year.
