SOUTHAMPTON’s Ocean Village was the last port of call for the exclusive screening of a film based on chart-topping tunes from pop-folk band The Proclaimers.

The movie takes its title from Sunshine on Leith – a big hit for the twins Charlie and Craig Reid.

Their home city of Edinburgh provides the backcloth for the fast moving screenplay.

It is based on a stage hit created six years ago at the Dundee Repertory Theatre.

Now it has been transformed to the big screen by director Dexter Fletcher.

He has been travelling across the country promoting the film and was at Southampton’s Harbour Lights Picture House where, in front of a full house, he took part in a Q&A session.

Dexter revealed that in making the film they were very aware they were portraying the lifetime work of The Proclaimers.

But he said: “Craig and Charlie were delighted with the film and they have seen it six times.”

Southampton was the last of seven cities to preview the movie before it goes on nationwide release tomorrow.

The film captures the rollercoaster emotions of two ex-squaddies, Davy and Ally, returning to their native Edinburgh after serving in Afghanistan.
