AT MOTTISFONT, ROMSEY… FROM twinkling snowflake stars in the winter garden to giant willow shapes, Mottisfont’s garden ‘Star Gazing’ sculptures have all been made by artists working across the south. There’s a telescope to peek into, a stained glass constellation, and even a star that turns into a fountain when it rains!

Natalie Guy from Bournemouth has made a star covered in tiny pearlised mosaic tiles to sit in front of Mottisfont’s historic house.

Artist Bev Newman has worked with The Headway Craft group from Southampton, who are all recovering from head injuries.

Together they have created a big star mobile for the Stable Yard, combining knitting, embroidery, crochet, toy cars and even kids’ drawings, all reflecting their personal journeys back to health and how each of them has ‘reached for the stars’ as they’ve recovered.

Kids can run on ahead to find the next sculpture as they complete the Shooting Stars trail, which includes craft activities to make and take away. It builds into a map that shows you how to spot the constellation Orion, only visible in the winter night sky.

Star gazing is open everyday from tomorrow to January 27, except Christmas Day, from 10am to dusk.
