SPORTING legends will be helping to mark St George’s Day in Southampton.

Cpl Andy Reid, who lost both of his legs and his right arm while he was serving in Afghanistan, will be joined by former England rugby captain and 2003 World Cup Winner Lewis Moody and former England footballer Stuart Pearce.

Cpl Reid will be hosting the event which will see entertainment and a three course meal with the war hero and Moody and Pearce.

The money raised from the event will go towards the charity ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, which gives lifetime support to soldiers and their families.

The event takes place at 4pm on Friday, April 22 at the Grand Harbour Hotel Southampton in West Quay Road.

St George’s Day celebrations are happening throughout the county and to celebrate the Daily Echo and Southampton City Council are looking for modern day St Georges.

As previously reported we are looking for nominations for the St George’s Day Awards, which celebrates Englishness and residents from all walks of life who have made other people’s lives in and around Southampton better.

The categories are: Biggest Improvement to Quality of Life in the Southampton City Region, the Young Person or People who have Improved Life and Wellbeing in the Southampton City Region, the Biggest Campaigner for Change in the Southampton City Region, for Putting the Southampton City Region on the Map and a Local Unsung Hero.
