Sony announced yesterday that the successor to the PSP is on its way and should available to buy in 2011. The device has been codenamed NGP for New Gaming Platform and will use a new game medium. The game will come in the form of flash memory based cards that will store not only the game itself, but it's download content, saves and scores.

The NGP has a five inch inch touch screen on the front along with a touch sensitive pad on the back so that players can use touch, grab, trace, push and pull with their fingers to control the system. There are also gyroscopes, accelerometers and electronic compasses that will give the device motion sensitivity.

On the front of the NGP are the face buttons and controls that the current PSP dons, but with the added inclusion an analogue stick on the right hand side.

No pricing structure has yet been given and no games have been confirmed, although tech demos were shown for Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet and Call of Duty.

Those of you who already caught the trophy collecting bug on the PS3, there will also be trophy support for the NGP. Now time spent gaming on the go can add to the all important trophy cabinet.

With Wi-fi, 3G, a new interface called LiveArea and a couple of built-in cameras, the NGP is looking as though it will be a neat bit of kit.
