A WORK that dramatically imagines the final thoughts of a dying believer is set to be performed by a 142-year-old group in Winchester.

The Royal Choral Society is taking on Edward Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius for the concert in the Cathedral.

Under the baton of Richard Cooke, the society will be joined by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and a trio of soloists – Peter Auty (tenor), Madeleine Shaw (mezzo-soprano) and Alexander Robin Baker (bass).

The concert, on Saturday, May 30 at 7.30pm, marks Mr Cooke’s 20th year conducting the society.

Tickets cost £12-£29 and are available from the box office on 01962 857275 or online at winchester-cathedral.org.uk.
