IT will be a case of déjà vu at the Regent in Christchurch next week when the Cavern Beatles take to the stage on Friday May 22.

This tribute band not only has a striking likeness to the original Fab Four but sound spookily accurate too.

The Cavern Beatles have taken their name from the famous club that gave the Mop Tops their first big break in that legendary cellar in Liverpool.

The band has also carved a name out for themselves in Germany, where they have played in Hamburg, the great German port that really took the Beatles to heart before anywhere outside of Liverpool recognised just how big a worldwide phenomenon they would become.

Back in 1963, the term Beatlemania was coined to describe the effect that the Fab Four from Liverpool were having on audiences the length and breadth of the country.

Over 50 years on the songs still sound as fresh as they did when the Mersey Sound was first unleashed on the UK.

The first half of the show is dedicated to the period in 1963 before Beatlemania spread worldwide. All the hits are here, including: Please, Please Me, She Loves You, From Me to You, Twist and Shout and I Saw Her Standing There.

The second half is devoted to the period from 1964 onwards, beginning with the Beatles’ “invasion” of the USA and how pop music history was re-written and then via the psychedelia of the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album to the rooftop concert on the Apple building in 1969.

The Times has described The Cavern Beatles show as “like a scene from A Hard Day’s Night”, whilst the Irish Times have said “this could, indeed be the Beatles themselves!”
