ISLE of Wight Festival headliners Fleetwood Mac WILL perform at the Isle of Wight festival this weekend despite cancelling a gig last night.

The band has postponed a show in Birmingham due to illness within the group, although it was not revealed who was sick.

A statement on the band’s website last night said: “We are very sorry to announce that due to illness the Fleetwood Mac concert at Birmingham Genting Arena this evening will not take place and has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, 7th July, 2015.

"All tickets remain valid for the re-scheduled performance.”

This morning a spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Festival, Kate Etteridge, said she could only say that the band’s headlining appearance on Sunday night would go ahead as planned, as will all concert dates scheduled from Friday onwards.

She said: “Fleetwood Mac are performing on the Sunday night of the Isle of Wight Festival as scheduled. I don’t have any further information other than what is in the statement Live Nation released yesterday”.

Meanwhile festival organiser John Giddings took to social media to reassure punters .

He said on Facebook: “They will be here!”

Last night’s gig was only cancelled at 6pm sparking anger from fans who had travelled long distances and paid out for hotels and babysitters.

One fan had travelled from Canada specially for the gig.

Their ongoing UK tour has received rave reviews with high praise for Stevie Nicks but it has also been hinted by guitarist Lindsay Buckingham to be their last set of shows.

The music legends will close this year’s Isle of Wight Festival on Sunday in their only UK festival appearance of the summer.

John Giddings (who is also live agent for acts including Madonna, U2 and Sting) battled for a long time to book the ‘Rumours’ band.

It was a huge personal accolade to beat Glastonbury to the big name booking.

Asked by the New Musical Express how he managed to book them he said:” I paid them!” he joked. “Glastonbury are in a privileged position, whereby they sell out in advance.

"They could book my granny and still have a festival. The rest of us are still in the realms of having to book a decent line-up and make it attractive to people and want them to come.”

Fleetwood Mac are also due to headline gigs in London, Glasgow and Leeds later this summer.

Fleetwood Mac are scheduled to appear alongside fellow headline acts Blur, The Black Keys and The Prodigy this weekend.
