SOUTHAMPTON composer Benjamin Oliver is on the coveted list of nominees for this year’s prestigious British Composer Award.
An Associate Professor at the University of Southampton and conductor for the Workers Union Ensemble, Ben draws inspiration from jazz and pop music.
He is a first-time nominee and has had his works performed by BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta and at the BFI. He is nominated for his ‘Loop Concerto for jazz and large ensemble’, focused on finding a musical space somewhere between jazz and contemporary classical music.
The winners of the awards in each category will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the British Museum in London on December 6.
