SALISBURY Cathedral Choir has released its latest CD Christmas at Salisbury Cathedral on the Priory label.
Recorded in the cathedral earlier this year, it is a lovely mixture of old and new, with two carols recorded for the very first time.
David Halls, director of music at the cathedral, said: “We wanted to record a new CD of Christmas carols sung by the boy choristers and men of the choir and we chose carols which we know the choristers really enjoy singing. “The CD features an exciting and imaginative selection of well-known and new pieces which reflects the breadth of music which can be heard in this magnificent cathedral and, we hope, will help listeners embrace the true spirit of Christmas.”
The choir is accompanied by Daniel Cook, assistant director of music, on the cathedral’s famous Father Willis organ. He also performs the beautiful Nativité by Grunenwald for organ solo. Christmas at Salisbury Cathedral is available from Salisbury Cathedral shop and other retailers, priced £13.50.
