WE’RE counting down to Southampton’s Musical Alphabet next weekend, part of Music Nation Weekend – the first nationwide musical countdown event for the London Olympics.
On March 3 and 4, musicians will take over the city to perform an unprecedented 26 hours of alphabetical music running from 10am on Saturday to 11pm on Sunday, launching one letter in each hour.
Organisers at the Turner Sims hope to celebrate the international dimension of the Olympics in our diverse city.
Over the weekend, audiences will be able to experience bell ringing at Bitterne Park Church, chamber music at the Dolphin Hotel, performance poetry in the City Art Gallery, tango in WestQuay, internationally renowned violinist Chloe Hanslip performing with Southampton Youth Orchestra, African drumming in Guildhall Square, nursery rhymes in the Eastpoint Centre and even a live hip hop orchestra.
For full details of the event, see next Friday’s Your Entertainment.
