ORGANISERS of the Wickham Festival have bailed out fans of acoustic folk group Show of Hands whose signature festival was washed out.

The band’s annual event at Abbotsbury was called off on Saturday after relentless rain closed roads and flooded Dorset, leaving hundreds disappointed.

But they can now get to see the band perform free of charge at the Wickham Festival on August 4 – a real bargain as a ticket would normally cost £50.

Also on the line-up that day will be Bellowhead, Home Service, Michael McGoldrick, Steve Tilston, Jackie Oates, Jim Causley and Belshazzar’s Feast, among others.

Wickham Festival boss Peter Chegwyn said: “Show of Hands and their fans have been great supporters of our festivals over the years and we are very happy to help them in return.

“Hopefully we can ensure that Show of Hands fans can still enjoy a great day out this summer.”

Those wanting to take up the offer should simply take their Abbotsbury tickets to Wickham Festival and exchange them at the box office for full day tickets.

The Wickham Festival features live music and entertainment for all ages.

This year’s event runs from August 2 to 5 and is attracting visitors from as far away as Canada, South America and even Australia to see such stars as Jools Holland, the Proclaimers, KT Tunstall, the Levellers and Bellowhead.

Also on the bill are Oysterband, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel plus The Wurzels, who will all be appearing under the Big Top which will ensure festivalgoers will stay warm and dry.

Attractions for children include a circus, cartoon cinema, digital funfair, storytelling and puppet theatre.
