THE tiny Hampshire village of Wickham is back on the global map again this weekend thanks to its annual festival.

This year’s event is attracting visitors from as far away as Canada, South America and even Australia to see such stars as Jools Holland, the Proclaimers, KT Tunstall, the Levellers and Bellowhead.

More than 100 acts will be appearing at the Wickham Festival until Sunday and excited officials are confident it will be their most successful event yet, boosting the local economy to the tune of £1m.

Organiser Peter Chegwyn said: “We have a fantastic line-up this year with fans coming from all over Britain and Europe – and even the far side of the world.

“It is the little village which thinks big. We have some huge international stars playing a tiny venue in the middle of nowhere.

“Our artists really enjoy playing at Wickham because our audiences are so appreciative and because the atmosphere in our main stage ‘Big Top’ is absolutely fantastic.

Jools Holland enjoyed himself so much last year that he asked to come back this summer.

Also on the bill are Oysterband, Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel plus the Wurzels.

The festival also features street theatre , storytelling, a solar-powered cinema , digital funfair, circus, childrens entertainers, traditional crafts fayre, exotic foods fayre, Real Ale Festival and much more.
