SOUTHAMPTON folk singer songwriter Lucy Kitchen releases her first album, Waking, later this month.

She will be playing Mango in Southampton on March 9 and The Railway in Winchester on Saturday, March 15.

The album, and single Tide, are out on March 28 on Bohemia Rose Records and will be officially launched at Peter Rhodes Bookshop in Southampton on March 29.

She crafts haunting and delicate songs, written of her own experiences, loves, desires and life. Anyone who enjoys Laura Marling will love her.

The songs were recorded as a live performance of guitar and vocals and then embellished with flute, glockenspiel and other instruments.

Lucy said: “I wanted the intimacy of a live performance and to capture the songs as a whole.”

Recorded with her friend Toby Vane of Zanzibar Productions, she plays and sings guitar, flute, glockenspiel, melodica and percussion.

A self-confessed ‘folky bird’ she cites her influences as Joni Mitchell, Mazzy Star, Laura Veirs, Bon Iver, Neil Young and Nick Drake.

CD/download of the album Waking available now to preorder at £10.
