THE Isle of the Wight Festival and Bestival will go head to head after both were nominated for a prestigious award.

The events are both on the shortlist for the best major festival category at the UK Festival Awards, it was announced today.

Bestival, which takes place on the Isle of Wight each September, was also nominated for best dance event, headline performance of the year by Foals and best use of new technology.

The Isle of Wight Festival was also nominated for headline performance of the year for The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The smaller, family-friendly Camp Bestival was nominated for best medium-sized festival and best family festival - which it won last year.

More than 700,000 votes - a record - were cast by fans to decide the shortlists.

The winners will be announced on-stage at the UK Festival Awards gala ceremony at The Roundhouse in London on Monday December 1.
