NEVER mind raising the roof, you’ll be Up On The Roof at the Regent Centre in Christchurch, when The Drifters take to the stage tomorrow ( Saturday May 7) at 7.30 pm.

Smash hits by The Drifters first charted way back in 1953 and although the group has had numerous line-up changes over the decades, they were always famous for their magnificent vocal harmonies, synchronised choreography, slick presentation and a host of fabulous songs, including: Save The Last Dance For Me, Kissin’ In The Back Row Of The Movies, There Goes My First Love, Hello Happiness, You’re More Than A Number In My Little Red Book, Saturday Night At The Movies, On Broadway, Under The Boardwalk and Like Sister and Brother.

With over 65 members of The Drifters over 63 years since their inception, the legacy continues with the current line-up. After their unrivalled success on previous world tours they are back with their latest UK Tour which is the best yet. The Drifters have seen massive chart success on both sides of the Atlantic and across the world, with sales of over 114 million albums and 214 million singles alongside a vast catalogue of hits. The current line-up have rebranded The Drifters with a new Album release on Warner Music.

The Drifters were one of the first groups to help create modern soul music by melding traditional Gospel style vocals and the melodies of the 30s and 40s doo-wop era with Fifties rhythm & blues.

The show at the Regent features the only legitimate Drifters line up in the World and they maintain the tradition with a first half set devoted to all those timeless, classic hits that everyone knows, loves and wants to sing with the Group.

The second half shows how The Drifters have re-invented themselves for a modern audience with new songs from their latest Album, La Vie et La Amour with a back line of world class musicians.
