THIS time last year the Charley Macauley story was about to be written with the opening chapters taking place in the heats for Red Hot Talent, the competition run by Red Funnel.
Following her success in that she performed onboard their ferries, entertaining passengers to and from the Isle of Wight.
Some acts would turn their noses up at such an opportunity but Charley’s determination to succeed and gig wherever possible was rewarded: she was spotted by the manager of The Stranglers.
His endorsement lead to a brilliant opportunity: an invitation to support Anastacia at Osborne House in front of 5000 people.
Since then Charley has been signed by a management team and this year she’s been invited back with a billing of ‘special guest’ to support Will Young on July 31.
This piece of fantastic news has been added to recent announcements that have made Charley declare: “2010 is going to be amazing!”
In a couple of week’s time she’ll be playing a private after concert par ty for Jools Holland on the Isle Of Wight (April 23).
And if that wasn’t enough there will be two major festivals in June: the Isle of Wight (13) and Glastonbury (26).
This has all come about from entering a talent competition and then grabbing the opportunities that present themselves.
These same circumstances could well present themselves to the acts that make the grand final of Red Hot Talent 2010 on May 15 at Southampton University.
How will their story unfold?
