FRESH from a performance with Sax God Courtney Pine, Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra (SYJO) will join up with Southampton Jazz Workshop (SJW) bring you a free feast of music at The Concorde on Monday.

Both groups are flying high with SJW about to star in the National Festival of Music for Youth and both bands chosen to play at London’s Barbican Hall as part of the Essentially Ellington Festival where they will appear alongside the trumpet maestro Wynton Marsalis on July 14.

The concert will feature a selection of classic jazz and modern grooves and celebrate the achievement of the young stars.

n HE has recorded and gigged with the great Bing Crosby.

And jazz multi-instrumentalist and arranger Keith Nichols will be re-creating the music of another American music legend when he brings his Blue Devils band to The Concorde on Wednesday.

They will be playing the music of the Duke Ellington Orchestra covering 1926 to 1940.

Keith is internationally recognised as one of the finest exponents of classic jazz from the days of Ragtime to the swing of the 40s.

n STEVE Turner is the guest artist at Southampton’s Fo’c’sle Folk Club tonight. Steve is a fine singer and highly regarded for his concertina playing, with six solo albums to his credit, mainly of English folk songs but including material as diverse as Handel and Bob Dylan.

He is in demand all round the UK and as far afield as Australia and New Zealand, and he has the distinction of having the Godfather of British folk music, Martin Carthy, playing guitar on his last two albums.
