IT’S been somewhat of a nostalgia fest for me this week with two entertainments favourites from my childhood rearing their head in just one day.
Off I scooted to the Midlands for interviews with the cast of two of The Mayflower’s forthcoming shows – The Full Monty and Birds of a Feather.
Southampton audiences are in for a huge treat from the season if these corkers are anything to go by. They had me crying with laughter, crying real tears and everything in between – and it takes a special show to do that, let alone two in one day.
First stop was the Birmingham Hippodrome where Stella’s Kenny Doughty and a crew of other TV faces are putting in the most exceptional turns in the stage version of that superb British film about former Sheffield steelworkers turned strippers.
It’s all there – distracting gnomes during interviews, dancing to Hot Chocolate in the job centre and plenty more tongue in cheek thrills as we experience the heartache and hilarity of a city on the dole.
I could only fit in a quick picture with six fellas in their dressing gowns before I headed off to Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre to see the girls.
Chatting away with Linda Robson and Pauline Quirke in their shared dressing room, Lesley Joseph pops in from next door and I feel like I’m on the set of that fondlyremembered sitcom.
It’s like we’ve never left Chigwell when the sisters and their sex-mad neighbour appear on stage for two hours of riotous laughs.
I utterly adored both shows and can’t wait for their visit.
It’s back to the 90s – and I love it!
