IT WAS all about brotherly love, both on stage and in the crowd.

The Family Rain are three siblings, William, Ollie and Timothy Walter, and they received rapturous applause when they took to the stage at The Joiners in Southampton last night.

From the start the fast-paced blues-rock band from Bath stressed it was all about feeling good and having fun.

Lead singer William told the crowd “let’s get as close as possible”, which is always the case in the close and cosy venue in St Mary Street.

With their unkempt beards and sharp leather jackets they epitomise rock star chic, but this was very much hands in the air and clapping rock music rather than trying to look too cool for school.

It was a chance to promote their new album Under The Volcano, out in February.

Fans sang along to stand-out tunes Feel Better Frank, Pushing It and Friction, with William calling for lots of “audience participation”.

They also showed a heavier side, although it was hard to take them as seriously when they tried to rake it “dirty” because despite the rockier songs they are just too nice.

The crowd got a bit wilder, but careful not to engage in too much pushing and shoving.

In fact the “dirtiest” thing was when William politely announced he was going offstage to be sick briefly.

Overall it was a good show but whether nice guys can come up on top in the aggressive music business remains to be seen.
