A sell-out gig at the Wedgewood Rooms is always going to be fun – such an intimate space creates a very special atmosphere.

Primed by knock-out performances by Sarah Williams White and Itch, the evening was set to be a memorable one.

And so it was that dan le sac and Scroobius Pip were welcomed by a pumped-up crowd ready to be entertained.

We were treated to a masterful display by the hip-hop duo. Dan le sac, resplendent in a fluffy panda hat was in charge of the beats, nimbly working his keyboards and gadgetry, while Scroobius revelled in the power of the word.

A latterday bard with plenty to say, his songs are hard-hitting, unflinching but most of all surprising. A language lover, he uses his words to tackle everything from love-gone-bad to teenage suicide.

It's clear they enjoy the music and each others company, quipping between songs and always thanking the audience for their encouragement.

They had the confidence to take the mood right down by playing a couple of slow tracks but it was the bouncy Get Better that really got the crowd going.

Thou Shalt Always Kill, their first commercial hit, was the high spot of a top notch performance. It's easy to see why their gigs are selling out – they've got more than enough to say and the right words and music to get their message out there.
