Opening with a joyfully rocking medley of Run Run Rudolph, Walking In A Winter Wonderland, and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, ace musical comedy act That’ll Be The Day delivered a sizzling seasonal show.

The slick versatile five-piece band and the front five vocalists are one of the hardest-working acts on the road, playing over 200 sold-out shows every year all over the UK, changing material in November/ December for a Christmas version.

As Cliff Richard, sensational impressionist Trevor Payne convincingly covered We Don’t Talk Anymore and the inevitable Mistletoe And Wine.

Instead of the usual Shadows’ medley, a refreshing change was the American instrumental group The Ventures, featuring Walk Don’t Run and a neat version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Interspersed with the excellent music are the hilarious comedy sketches, featuring Trevor and Gary Anderson as Steptoe & Son, with Old Steptoe changing the lyrics to My Favourite Things to include references to false teeth, creaking bodies, and Viagra tablets.

Outstanding in this year’s show were an atmospheric segment about the famous Cavern Club, a rich version of the Beach Boys’ classic God Only Knows, and the always endearing performances of the youngsters from the local Carrington Hollywood Dance Academy.

What a wonderful musical/comedy festive show.
