GIVE the audience what they want is clearly a motto that Ash live by – and they certainly did that.

While some bands save the best until last – quite literally the encore – Ash got straight in there with their biggest numbers.

Just a sprinkling of new stuff was played between the hits that seemed to just keep coming.

The Downpatrick trio returned constantly to their 1977 album to satisfy the appreciative audience. Girl from Mars was their second song and set the tone for an evening that was high energy and fulfilled its promise.

Goldfinger and Oh Yeah got the crowd really going and their full-on rendition of Kung Fu brought a chorus of cheers.

Their brand of rock clearly appeals to a broad spectrum as the predominantly student filled room had its fair share of old rockers too.

It was a great one and a half hour set by these regular visitors to the south coast.
