A NEW inter-college television quiz show, devised and produced by students from Southampton Solent University, got the thumbs up from QI creator John Lloyd during a visit to the university.

John , who was presented with an honorary doctorate of media from the university in 2012, met with television production students to discuss the format of High Stakes – a seven episode inter-college quiz show that is thought to be a television first.

Having used his expertise to produce enduring broadcast formats – including Not the Nine o’Clock News, Spitting Image and Blackadder – John was keen to get a closer look at the studio set up at Solent and offer advice to the student production team working on the new quiz show.

Due to start this week, the show will be filmed in the university’s state-ofthe- art HD TV studio.

Described as Eggheads meets Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, the general knowledge quiz show will feature a selection of colleges from around the region including, Bitterne Park Sixth Form, Fareham College, Isle of Wight Sixth Form and Queen Margaret College, Basingstoke.

Team supporters from the colleges will have the opportunity to be part of the studio audience.

Once completed, the television production students aim to pitch the programme to professional companies and television networks.
