THE opportunity to see one of the world’s great opera singers right on your doorstep this summer is quite a coup for organisers of the Upton House Music Festival.

Renowned Welsh bass-baritone Sir Bryn Terfel is headlining the exciting night of classical music on June 8 , also starring electric string quartet Escala, soprano Lauren Fagan and the celebrated BSO Concert Orchestra.

Award-laden Sir Bryn this week announced he was also topping the bill at the BBC’s Proms in the Park event in London in September.

Upton House Music Festival spokesman Stephen McManus said: “You don’t have to wait until September to see Sir Bryn – and you don’t have to travel to London.

“It is a real coup to have such an acclaimed artiste appear in Poole and we can’t wait to see him perform a selection of classical pieces as well as popular music from the shows.

“It is sure to be a special night with wonderful music throughout the evening, a sparkling atmosphere and a host of picnics being held across the manicured lawns.”

Sir Bryn, who was knighted by the Queen during a Buckingham Palace investiture ceremony in March, has performed in all the great opera houses of the world and is especially recognised for his portrayals of Figaro, Falstaff and Wotan.

Accompanying Bryn will be the BSO Concert Orchestra, the ensemble of fine musicians specially selected for the Upton House Music Festival, conducted by Gareth Jones.

The BSO has been making music of the highest order since 1893 and is a unique organisation in that it is the only UK symphony orchestra not based in a major city - the orchestra serves a whole region whilst maintaining important national and international significance.

The three-night Upton House Music Festival held at the idyllic country park also includes an 80s Extravaganza on Friday, 9 June featuring R&B superstar Billy Ocean, singing sensation Kim Wilde and punk princess Toyah.

Saturday, 10 June sees internationally renowned singer-songwriter Michael Bolton appearing in a performance exclusive to Upton and supported by special guest, soul sensation Kenny Thomas.

Tickets for the event are available now, with multi-night tickets and various hospitality packages available. See the website www.uptonhousemusicfestival.co.uk for details or call 01202 255161.
