BEHIND the Curtain, the book telling the story of Winchester’s theatre Royal, is now available to buy from outlets and book shops around the city. The book goes through the history of the theatre, from its original life as a hotel, through its revue and cinema years, to the battles against demolition and finally to its present form as a vibrant and beautiful theatre.
Co-authored by Phil Yates and Madelaine Smith, it includes many first hand accounts and memories from people who have been involved in the theatre and its preservation through the decades.
The book is now on sale from Waterstones, P & G Wells in College Street, the Tourist Information Centre and the Discovery Centre. It is also on sale from the theatre’s box office, priced £9.99.
