PEOPLE keen to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee are urged to get involved in a weekend of fun.

The Guildhall Winchester, the University of Winchester and Winchester BID have organised 48 hours full of entertainment – and now they need your help.

The Jubilate party kicks off on Saturday, June 2, from 7pm with a showcase of local talent at Guildhall Winchester.

Local musicians, magicians, comedians, actors and dancers are all invited to take part.

The next day from 12pm until 5pm a free street party will transform the city into a hub of activity.

‘A Street Party Fit for a Queen’ invites communities to soak up the atmosphere of live acts including workshops, street dance, circus performance, magicians and comedy.

During the afternoon choirs and brass bands will fill the streets with performances from groups including Winchester Rock Choir before everyone in the city centre will join together for a host of patriotic songs.

Local artists and photographers inspired by the day have the chance to showcase their work in an art exhibition which will run in the city until December.

Members of the public can become part of history and get involved in all the events.

Organisers say they need a compere for the Saturday showcase and have called on all comedians to audition for the role.

Shortlisted entrants will have the chance of being picked by a public vote at a ‘So...you think you’re funny’ showcase to be held at the Courtyard, Guildhall Winchester on May 10 from 7pm.

If you want to be a compere, or to get involved in the local showcase event send your details to jubilatewinchester @gmail.com.

Tickets are now on sale for the Saturday showcase and are available at jubilate winchester.co.uk.
