NOEL Gallagher and The Stone Roses are huge fans, Jools Holland was tripping over himself to feature him on Later With... and his most catchy tune was played out to the world ahead of the 100m final at London 2012.

Jake Bugg has a clutch of great singles, but as yet no hits.

Still, at the tender age of 18, he shouldn’t be too concerned that time is running out just yet.

He’s being touted as the next big thing and, having enjoyed a fair few listens to his self-titled album, I was excited to be able to see the lad for myself right here in Southampton this week.

The Guildhall has, of course, played host to a fair few illustrious names over the years, many of them, like Jake, on the ascendancy.

And the only one that held the audience’s attention like Jake Bugg won an Oscar this week.

Not The Manics, The Killers, The Kaiser Chiefs. Certainly not Amy Winehouse, who bumbled her way through a show, forgetting her lines several times.

But Adele, who performed and picked up a gong for her Skyfall theme tune at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

So I predict big things for the teenager with a voice that could silence a room – and the world at his feet.

With hints of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Cast, even Gene Pitney, he doesn’t necessarily offer a new sound.

But he’s certainly vintage – and that’s all the rage.
