SIMON Cowell is frantically trying to revive his ailing TV show.

X Factor suffered its lowest viewing figures in seven years during last year’s final, and reappointing Sharon Osbourne, dubbed the Queen of Mean, looks like desperate times calling for desperate measures.

If reports are true, she’ll be replacing Tulisa from N-Dubz on the panel in a stonking £1.8 million deal.

Sharon is deliciously badly behaved and she certainly ruffles a few feathers, but a return to the panel of the show’s heydays will not bring them the same superb ratings.

Her chucking a glass of water over the terribly irritating Louis Walsh was, admittedly, one of the programme’s all-time highs.

But let’s not forget Sharon is the woman who brought us Chico Time and that is a completely unforgivable musical boo boo!

Who knows, maybe the hightrousered one is right – after all, he’s terribly good at making piles of money and getting girlfriends and the Christmas number one.

But I think audiences have moved on and even dragging Simon himself back to head up the panel wouldn’t return the X Factor to its former glory.

They’re a fickle bunch and what was cool one minute is certainly not cool nearly a decade later.

There’s no such thing as telly loyalty any more now the digital world is your oyster.
