AT last – a sequel that makes sense.

Pixar has announced that it’s working on a second The Incredibles movie.

So, almost a decade after its release, the one film in the catalogue that seems tailormade for a follow-up is being revisited.

In the original, the family of undercover superheroes are living a quiet suburban life before being forced into action to save the world.

Sometime later, during the closing sequences, the Parrs have readjusted to normal life.

But when a new villain, the Underminer, appears, they all don their masks, ready to battle the latest enemy.

It should work, if only because sequels make sense for superheroes.

Yet while other Pixar titles have received the sequel treatment, it hasn’t happened for The Incredibles until now.

Studio bosses were waiting for director Brad Bird to return with the perfect storyline.

It should be a treat, which will make a nice change.

The brilliant Toy Story series aside, studio bosses haven’t had too much sequel success. There’s a reason that Cars 2 is the only Pixar movie not to be nominated for the Best Animated Feature Academy Award and that’s because it’s truly awful, built on commercial rather than creative need.

Monsters University is more of the same and, much as I adored Finding Nemo, I’m not entirely sure Finding Dory will be a revelation.

I have a feeling The Incredibles 2 will be a treat though. But I’d love it if they could take more chances on original material, rather than hoping lightning strikes twice with hits from their golden days.
