IT was farewell to Wisteria hysteria this week when the Desperate Housewives took their final curtsey.

I will miss the farcical goings on in Fairview, but I think it was the right time for them to bow out. Every TV show has a shelf life and scriptwriters had begun to stretch the viewers credulity just that bit too far.

We were quite willing to accept that the same suburban street in America could suffer a plane crash, a tornado, constant hit-and-run accidents and more bodies than you could shake a stick at in under a decade.

We giggled away as Gabrielle mowed the lawn in her ball gown in an attempt to hide her affair with the gardener and Susan was locked out of the house in the buff.

But Bree attracting a series of hunky suitors 20 years her junior and Lynette bothering to save the life of her love rival Jane when she choked on some food? That’s just a step too far! The last episode of the final season was disappointing and not just because they didn’t bring back Jesse Metcalfe for a final hurrah. The happy endings were much more predictable than we’ve come to expect over the years from a brilliant comedy drama.

But it did of course end with the perfect cliffhanger – a new mysterious family taking up residence with yet another secret to hide – so no doubt it will be back one day.
