EVEN Alan Partridge himself couldn’t have made it up.

Sky has this week announced the pilot episode of a new show called On the Couch with Peter Crouch.

They promise a chat format where the former Saints and England star will meet his heroes from the worlds of comedy, music and food.

I sincerely hope the beanpole striker, famed for his robot dance, has not been offered the gig simply because his name happens to rhyme with a piece of furniture.

But on the surface of it, there seems little else to warrant a series like this.

Certainly, anyone tarring Crouch with the same brush as his wife the model Abbey Clancy, would be seriously concerned.

Painful doesn’t come close to describing her presenting appearances on James Corden’s World Cup Live two years ago.

But, having met Crouch a couple of times during his stint at St Mary’s, I found him, unlike many other footballers, articulate, interesting and witty as documented by one of my favourite ever answers to a journalist’s question.

“Peter what would you be if you weren’t a footballer?”

“A virgin.”

If his questions are as insightful as that answer, I might just tune in.
