MAYFLOWER Theatre are launching My Story, a new project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The aim is to create a “Living Story” rather than a simple archive which will culminate in a new interactive digitised archive, filmed interviews and displays in the theatre itself. The theatre want to engage people of all ages to discover the stories of anybody who has visited the theatre over its 89 year history.

Nicola Peacock, who is heading up the project, said: “This is a call to everyone to join us and let us know your story whether it’s from many years ago or your first visit to us recently.

"Through the My Story project, we want to make the living history of our wonderful theatre accessible to all through the website and at the theatre. Mayflower Theatre is at the heart of our community and this project enables us to record and celebrate its rich history.”

A group of 30 young people are joining the project to conduct filmed interviews with groups of people within the Southampton community of all ages, capturing stories from the past and present day.

All filmed materials will be collated and turned into a short film to be displayed alongside our digital archive. The filming and interview aspects of this project are being assisted by local media group City Eye, who recently helped students document the Mayflower Theatre Summer Youth Project.

If you have archive materials or a story to share, please go to mayflower.org.uk/About_Us/My_Story where you will be able to submit your stories and notify the team if you have archive materials you would like to donate.
