FIRST team head coach Jan Poortvliet will field two different teams in Saints' final warm-up friendly against Stoke tonight.

The Dutchman will start with the team who began against West Ham on Friday, saying they deserve their chance again after the impressive display in the 2-2 draw at St Mary's.

He then plans to change the team for the second half, or after about an hour, to conserve his players' energy before the season opener at Cardiff on Saturday.

Kelvin Davis and Nathan Dyer will be among those given run-outs against the newly-promoted Premier League side tonight after recovering from recent injuries.

"I am going to start with the team from Friday and when they play 45 minutes or an hour then it's OK," Poortvliet said.

"With the team who played on Friday night, because they did well you say OK, why not?' - you stick with that team.

He added: "We had a game on Friday which was a tough game with a lot of energy and against Stoke we want to give a lot of energy also.

"But we will play two teams because the Championship is close and we have to keep a little bit of energy for the Saturday game."
