Arsonist starts numerous blazes overnight

THE fire service has condemned a fire bug who kept a crew from a Southampton busy during the middle of the night.

The arsonist struck in Lowford, near Bursledon, where he started half a dozen fires that destroyed a moped and damaged a van as well as bins.

The first incident happened at about 2am and the last was at about 4am. No one was injured in the incidents, which were reported by local residents and tackled by the Hightown station.

A fire spokesman: "They kept us tied for two hours and we were going from one fire to another."
