Mother of abandoned baby found

POLICE have traced the mother of a newborn baby that was found abandoned in Hampshire.

Officers were called just before 6pm today where a man found a baby boy outside an empty holiday home in Hayling Island, near Portsmouth.

Police launched an urgent appeal conducted an air and land search to find the mother, and later received a phone call from a girl saying she had given birth to the baby.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said the teenager received medical attention at a police station and is in good health.

The child was taken to St.Mary's Hospital in Portsmouth where his condition is described as healthy and stable.
