MORE than 1,600 students will graduate from the University of Winchester next month.
Seven ceremonies will be held at Winchester Cathedral from November 6 to November 9 presided over by the chancellor Dame Mary Fagan, Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire.
The first ceremony will commence with a special procession from Abbey House through the city centre to the cathedral, attended by civic chiefs and the university board of governors.
Honorary doctorates will go to musician Carl Barât of The Libertines, Olympic gold medallist Peter Charles, Lady Sainsbury of Preston Candover, chair of the Competition Commission Roger Witcomb and former Parliamentary and health service ombudsman Ann Abraham.
For the first time the university will also present Alumnus of the Year awards with former Team GB Paralympic footballer Jonathan Gribbin, and Carmella Reece, a teacher who works with the Hampshire Diamond Jubilee Gambia Project helping improve education there.
