Southampton Ford Transit supplier to shut down (From Daily Echo)

This will be the 1st of many, I feel sorry for everyone losing their jobs at Fords, but most of those workers will get enhanced redundancy packages from Fords, these poor buggers will get a pittance by comparison.

About time the government stepped in to fund a truely British made vehicle.... in a British factory by polish workers....

Don't worry everyone, the flourishing private sector will step in to save everything! Ha!

Or maybe Southampton City Council will ?

Why would the company close down now? Surely Ford still need seats and if they are a JIT business there would be little or no stock. Is it just possible that the impending closure of Ford is being used as a convenient excuse?

Yeah, of course they would want to close a site that could make a decent profit. I bet they make a better one in Turkey. Foul I know but such is life.

As I have been saying since before the closure announcement, start talking to Chinese vehicle makers NOW.

This is an ideal site to assemble knock-down kits from China to export to mainland Europe.

This is an ideal opportunity for any Chinese supplier looking to expand into Europe.

(PS: I'll expect a fee for coming up with this idea if it ever gets adopted!!)

The company was founded by Austrian born Frank Stronach in Canada, actually.

How many products are there in our shops that were made in China?
Do you think Japan was a Good human rights company in the second worlds war or Germany?
I know your talking about today but if every one is going to buy from China why not us at least build it here for a Chinese company?

You know that Cllr Williams & the Labour Party before the local elections knew exactly the size of the Government cut in funding for TWO years which split into two cuts would end up at @23.5million £1.5million less than Labour cut it to give to the North.
You also must have read the same article as I did in which Williams said all this would happen before the election but then accused the Echo of quoting him wrongly?
Now they say it was £32million? Funny that it was out in the Public Domain as £42million so how did they see the 3 instead of the 4?

Over the edge. Any new business opening up this year we keep the business rate so why did Williams scrap the Snow dome which was a private company?
he's lost an income there straight away so why?
Why did he break off a lucrative deal for this city with the Isle Of wight council?
If Refuse Services in ToTTon or any other authority is going out to contract why not ask the Refuse Workers to take on larger rounds & compete for those contracts?
You could have a tidy profit there whilst securing the Refuse jobs?
I'm not Anti Council workers but instead of looking into ways to fund services it seems this council has taken the easy route & just blamed the Government?
We have areas of Grass, Farmers are looking at a cheap source of feed for their animals?
Just before the Autumn let that grass grow cut it long & sell cheaply to the Farmers?
Just an idea don't know what you think but a way of income? possibly?

Fords have a plant in China producing Transit vans.

Not alot of people know that but been making them for over a year now!
