A busy Southampton road was closed while firefighters fought to rescue a pensioner from a dramatic crash.

The rescue operation took emergency services nearly one hour last night.

A 72-year-old woman was driving in Lordshill when she lost control of her Peugeot and the car and it rolled on to its roof.

Police, paramedics and firefighters from Redbridge and St Mary's fire stations were all on the scene just after 8pm.

The road was closed while the emergency services fought to free the woman from her car which was at the Lordshill Roundabout where it joins Brownhill Way with Lord's Hill Way.

Her family arrived on the scene.

The woman, who is from the local area, was transferred by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital.
