I will limit cuts to police says Hampshire's new commissioner (From Daily Echo)

"IT is the first vehicle of its kind to be used by a police force in the UK.

Constructed using some of the world's most advanced technology it can withstand gunfire, grenades and bomb blasts.

Now Hampshire police has unveiled a £120,000 armoured Land Rover as its latest tool in the fight against crime.

The four-tonne vehicle will replace the force's outdated current armoured car, which was bought on the recommendation of the Home Office following the Hungerford shootings in August 1987.

The new car will be used for armed incidents such as sieges, counter-terrorism and detaining violent criminals across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight."

This was a report from 2008. I would be interested how many times this vehicle has been deployed and its full capabilities employed. £120k would have paid for a few bobbies, my suspicion is that the savings are there, but will big boys be prepared to give up their toys?

Of the few people in Hampshire who voted Hayes into power, how many voted for him solely out of the belief he was the only "independent", rather than the senior local Tory politician he was until last year?

Wait, he's actually going to employ a tactic that has been PROVEN to WORK that other forces have used for years? Are pigs flying yet?

I didn't vote for him, and I find the Conservative party member's stand as an 'Independent' to be utterly dishonest.

However...

"The former Tory said he was “not convinced” that the most effective way of dealing with an offender was to send them to prison for six months."

He's showing a commendable degree of common sense there. Although it's hugely unpopular with the string-em-up brigade, the truth is that prison simply doesn't work. It needs to be kept as a last resort, instead of chucking minor offenders inside who come out the other end with a degree in criminality and a host of unsavoury connections.

I hope he has the guts to continue in this vein, and doesn't instead dip his knee to the bloodlu5t of daily mail readers.

I voted UKIP on this but did this guy say this to the electorate? did he say break the law but don't go inside?
I was hoping he would say the New Police Headquarters would be found in the brand new Police Station in Southampton & the tip at Eastleigh would be sold off giving money for front line forces?

And the first thing he is going to do is increase our taxes by paying for more officers.

How much will 200 extra officers cost ? £10 Million pounds?

The realities of this office will crush him. He hasn't worked out how much its going to cost and he is playing politics with OUR money.

I'd say it will be a month before we hear his first excuse. Thats only because he won't have worked out what he is doing until then.....

I was burgled by school kids after items they could sell to buy drugs they sent an apology.
IThey can stuff their apology I like the show 60's style boot camp & that would be the best treatment for them.
Get ex Soldiers maybe TA soldiers find a Barracks out on the Moors away from City's or Towns & put them through their paces not wipe their bums & let them off with a there there

Politicians running the Police Force....God forbid! Why can we not leave it to the experts...the Police? Why did Alex Marshall resign? Because of clowns like this wanting their path to fame. It will end in tears!

No, not having a laugh, it does actually work, especially with school kids though normally for smaller crimes such as petty shoplifting and stuff.
