But it is on the bit that runs alongside the M27 between Ower and Cadman, not the bad stretch from the end of M27 to Ringwood.

Yes, people need to slow down and pay attention.

Typical this time of year when people are rushing around with their minds on Christmas nonsense rather than paying attention to what they are doing. I travel this stretch of road every day and it's 30 mph or 40 mph limit at Copythorne so very puzzling.

No where does it state "accident" they could have been racing and being stupid and one hit the other etc .. That's not an accident that's just plain retardation! however I hope with the few details given that no one has been seriously hurt x

I said it is " puzzling" as being a 30 or 40 mph limit then for the Police to shut off the road then it must have been serious indicating that whoever was involved was not likely to be concentrating and I object to you calling me a dic*head !!!

'Near Copythorne' suggests it might have been North of the 40 mph limit, in the National Speed Limit (60) section of the road.
As others have said distracted driving, not just due to Christmas, though the number of distracted drivers is up at the moment, could have been a factor, as could alcohol, that may come to light later when the investigations are complete.
But with a number of unknown factors at present it's guess work for the uninformed (us) at best.

Christmas distracting drivers? Better ban it then.
