Thieves use stolen Range Rover to attempt to steal cash machine

Daily Echo: Thieves use stolen Range Rover to attempt to steal cash machine Thieves use stolen Range Rover to attempt to steal cash machine

Detectives are appealing for witnesses  after the attempted theft of a cash machine and the theft of a Ford Ranger truck.

The Ford Ranger was stolen from outside a farm house in Lyde Green, Rotherwick, Hook, overnight between January 2 and January 3.

The vehicle was then used in an attempt to steal a cash machine from the Texaco garage at Dunleys Hill in Odiham, at about 2.30am on February 12.

It was found alight in Ridge Lane, Rotherwick, later that day.

Detective Constable Matt Dennis said: “Were you in the Dunleys Hill area of Odiham in the early hours of Tuesday, February 12?

Did you see a Ford Ranger near the Texaco garage or anyone acting suspiciously?

“It is possible that the offenders were disturbed at the garage by passing vehicles, so I am really keen to speak to anyone who may have been in that area at the time.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Con Dennis at Aldershot Police Station on 101 or call the charity Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where information can be left anonymously.

The headline says stolen Range Rover, the copy refers to a stolen Ford Ranger... does anyone check anything at the DE?

Echo writer please note that a Ford Ranger is nothing like a Range Rover!

Seriuosly though, this is very bad journalism, as it causes confusion for the reader. Are we looking for a Range Rover, or a Ford Ranger?

Shockingly poor. Not just the level of journalism, but the fact that three readers have commented and yet the DE still hasn't corrected the mistake.
If you can't compose a proper report, then don't bother.
