Doctors rally to support National Health Action Eastleigh by-election candidate

Daily Echo: Candidate Dr Iain Maclennan pictured with his supporters in Eastleigh today Candidate Dr Iain Maclennan pictured with his supporters in Eastleigh today

DOCTORS and nurses rallied today to support a candidate in the Eastleigh by-election who is battling privatisation and the commercialisation of the NHS.

The medics marched through the town centre before converging in Leigh Park, to support Dr Iain Maclennan.

The 55-year-old former Royal Navy medical officer and public health consultant in Hampshire, is seeking to become the first MP to be returned by the newly formed National Health Action party (NHA).

Dr Maclennan spoke about the challenges of voter apathy and lack of local awareness of the threat of privatisation of the NHS.

He said: “I will be a different sort of MP - one that truly represents the people rather than the interests of a party. It's a disgrace that real people involvement in the affairs of Parliament is the exception rather than the rule.”

He went onto outline the threat to local community health services.

He said: “I'm particularly worried about Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and Solent NHS Trust. The real power will rest with Commissioning Support South - not local clinicians. “It's only a matter of time before this Coalition government allows a private takeover".

The by-election on February 28 is being held in the wake of the resignation of Eastleigh Lib Dem MP Chris Huhne who is facing jail over lying over a speeding ticket.

The NHA party was founded last year by doctors and health care professionals concerned about the increasing privatisation and commercialisation of the NHS.

The party is planning to field 50 candidates at the General Election.

.. he'd get my vote if I lived in Eastleigh.

The dismantling of the NHS and its handover to private enterprise should be the most pressing issue in UK politics today.

"DOCTORS and nurses rallied today to support..."

I know a large number of NHS workers, as I regularly do contract work in Trusts as well as businesses, and it's not just the doctors and nurses that are supporting the NHA. The majority of admin and managers are just as appalled by the coalition's naked attempt to destroy the NHS, and are entirely behind the NHA as well.

Despite the image some people have, most NHS managers work for the NHS because they want to help doctors and nurses to help patients. By nature of what they do, they're probably if anything more acutely aware of the damage the reforms are doing, and the lives it's putting at risk.

The reforms will kill people. The Tory/Lib Dem coaltion are killing people. Anyone who votes for them with this knowledge will have blood on their hands.

The NHA is dragging the NHS further into the mire.

We have a ongoing criminal investigation into the NHS/Stafford Hospital and heads will roll.

If that's not a good enough reason for the (NHA) Gangster/Blackmailer party to stand down what is?

Cantthinkofone, I'm more than happy to keep this thread Fluoride Free but your welcome to explain the differences between the (NHA) National Health Action Party and the Labour Party's (SHA) Socialist Health Association,

-

1) Labour Party's Socialist Health Association advocates the Water Fluoridation of all drinking Water in the UK.

2) Labour Party's Socialist Health Association advocates adding Fluoride to all the UKs Milk ( when all Milking Cows will be drinking Fluoridated Water ?)

3) Labour Party's Socialist Health Association advocates the promotion of Fluoride products in all Schools, Anti-natal sessions etc.

THE SOCIALIST HEALTH ASSOCIATION WAS FOUNDED IN 1930 TO CAMPAIGN FOR A NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE AND IS AFFILIATED TO THE LABOUR PARTY.

Evidence to the Health Select Committee 2007.

We are a membership organisation with members who work in and use the NHS. We include doctors and dentists and other clinicians, managers, board members and patients. Our members are involved in a wide variety of consultation and involvement processes in health and social care. We are particularly concerned that dental services are available to all who need them and that they contribute to improved oral health and reduce inequalities.

It must be recognised that the provision of NHS dental care services is one aspect of improving oral health. PCTs also need to provide or commission community based oral health promotion programmes eg WATER FLUORIDATION, OTHER FLUORIDE USE SUCH AS FLUORIDE VARNISH PROGRAMMES, FLUORIDATED MILK PROGRAMMES, DENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMMES IN SCHOOLS, ANTI-NATAL SESSIONS ETC. The successful implementation of such preventive programmes, in conjunction with practice-based prevention will reduce the future need for treatment.
