Police step up hunt for hit and run driver over Jade Clark death

Officers want to trace the driver of a silver Volvo XC90, one of the vehicles involved in the smash that killed Jade Clark.

The 16-year-old suffered fatal injuries when her red moped was hit by a number of vehicles on the westbound carriageway of the A31, near Ringwood.

Traffic police have been trying to piece together what happened and yesterday revealed that one of the vehicles involved in the incident at around 8.20pm on Sunday left the scene.

Inspector Matt Butler said: “We know from our investigation so far that a number of vehicles were involved in the incident and one of these vehicles, a Volvo XC90, left the scene before police arrived.

“I need to trace this vehicle and urge anyone with information to contact me.

“I particularly appeal to the driver to get in touch.

“The front of the vehicle will be damaged. If anyone is aware of a Volvo XC90 which has sustained damage or has been repaired in the last few days, they should call police urgently.”

Jade, who lived in Ringwood, was a pupil at Ringwood School and left in July 2012 to follow her love of hairdressing by starting a college course.

She was also a member of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Young Firefighters Association in Ringwood.

Tributes have been pouring in for Jade, who has been described as “lively, bubbly and beautiful”.

Jade’s friend Megan Billing, 17, from Burley, appealed for the driver of the Volvo to contact police urgently.

She added: “I’d known Jade for a couple of years. I met her through one of my best friends and we kept in touch on the phone. She was a lively, bubbly person and we are all devastated.”
