A BAR in Southampton has won permission to extend its opening hours to 5.30am on Saturdays.

Richard Gilbert, owner of Cafe Parfait in Above Bar Street, also applied to the city council to extend his opening hours to 4.30am from Sunday to Friday.

Soterios Peyiazis, owner of the neighbouring Blue Island tavern, had objected to the plans, saying it may lead to an increase in antisocial behaviour.

But members of the council’s licensing and gambling sub-committee approved the extension.
