FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a blaze in an abandoned building in Southampton city centre.

Crews from St Mary’s had initially feared some people may be inside the four-storey building in Above Bar Street, but when they arrived it was empty.

It took them less than an hour to extinguish the small fire on the ground floor.

The cause of the fire, which started at 1.15am on Saturday, is unknown.
