ONE of the suspects quizzed over the drug-related shooting that killed a man in Southampton has been bailed.

The 21-year-old woman, who was arrested in connection with the killing of Jamal Jones, has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Four others, a 36-year-old woman and three men aged 41, 21 and 18, also arrested on suspicion of murder, remain in police custody after detectives leading the investigation were granted an extension by Southampton Magistrates to continue their questioning.

Hampshire Constabulary has also released the results of the post mortem which have revealed that the 23-year-old, of Lyons Street, died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.

Police rushed to the scene in St Mary's just after 11am on Saturday and burst into the flat in St Mary's Street, where they found Jamal with gunshot wounds.

Despite the resuscitation efforts of a policeman at the scene, he died later at Southampton General Hospital.

There is still a large police presence in the area this morning, as detectives continue their hunt for the weapon and conduct house-to-house enquiries.

Anyone who has any information about the incident should contact the Hampshire Major Investigation Team by calling 101, quoting Operation Emetic, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
