A SPECTATOR was left needing hospital treatment after a sightscreen crashed down on to him while he was watching his son play cricket.
The 65-year-old man was watching a match at the Trojans Cricket Club in Eastleigh when the drama happened.
It is thought the large metal screen, used to help batsmen pick out the path of bowling deliveries, may have been blown over by the wind as the players came off for tea.
Team officials say the injured man had been watching his son, who was playing for the Portsmouth Cricket Club against the Trojans first team in a Southern Premier Cricket League division three seniors match.
Trojans club secretary Wyn Jones, who helped administer first aid, said the man had a blow to the head resulting in a one to twoinch gash that would need stitches.
However, he was taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
Mr Jones said the screen was secured and an investigation would be held.
