HUNDREDS of family and friends have gathered to say their final goodbyes to a young father killed in a hit and run crash.

The funeral of Steven Johnson took place at midday today at Romsey Abbey.

Floral tributes at the side of his coffin read 'Son' on one side and 'Stevey J' on the other.

The 20-year-old from Romsey died after he was hit by a car while walking on the A3057 near Romsey on April 19.

The driver did not stop.

In a nod to Steven's love of Liverpool Football Club there was also a floral version of the Liverpool badge on the back of the hearse and a red and white floral football.

Several of those attending wore Liverpool shirts in tribute while many had a splash of red amid their black outfits.

Steven's coffin was lead into the abbey to Westlife's I'll See You Again and lead out to Gerry and the Pacemakers' You'll Never Walk Alone.

A poem specially written for Steven was read out by his uncle Phil Smith and Steven's friend Charley MacAuley did an acoustic version of Eva Cassidy's Fields of Gold.

The service was followed by a committal at Southampton Crematorium.
